Qatar ranks number 1 in MENA in Global Peace Index

The State of Qatar ranked first in the list of countries in the Middle East and North Africa and ranked 27 globally, in the ranking of the Global Peace Index for 2020, issued by the Institute for Economics and Peace in the Australian city, Sydney.

The latest Global Peace Index reveals that in 2020 the average level of global peacefulness deteriorated for the ninth time in twelve years. Overall, 81 countries improved in peacefulness in the 2020 report, while 80 deteriorated.

Qatar’s score is 1.616, beating Kuwait in second place at 1.723. A total of 163 countries feature in the list globally.

The Global Peace Index is based on the level of societal safety and security, the extent of ongoing domestic and international conflict and the degree of militarisation, alongside other criteria including internal and external affairs of states
