Laura Cafe – Review
Laura Cafe in Lusail has some undeniably pretty pictures on Instagram. A bit too feminine for some, but attractive enough to make us want to explore it a bit more. We visit for breakfast – and also realize that’s all they serve, throughout the day. But we’re not complaining – we can have eggs Benny any time of the day.
It’s hard to ignore the stunning location, complemented by some clichéd but surprisingly comforting décor. Step into the terrace – it’s pretty impressive. Panoramic views highlighted by tall white columns and some artificial creepers on makeshift arches. The light wooden flooring just brings it all together and thankfully, Laura Cafe does not overdo the lavender theme.
Speaking of lavender, you’ll notice fresh lavender on the tables, which is a rather nice touch. Laura Cafe serves a selection of breakfast items all day under an Arabic and Indian fusion theme. You’ll find it all, from shakshouka to butter chicken and everything in between, fused.
We try the lattes to begin with – standard good cups of coffee, with even some decent latte art. It’s a bit hard to make sense of some of the combinations on the food menu but the dishes are definitely unique. If you’re averse to Indian cuisine, this spot is not recommended because there’s a touch of spice in almost everything.
But we love spice. And the shakshouka specifically has the words spicy in its description, so we opt for that, along with the mushroom eggs Benedict. The menu descriptions are in Arabic and highly inconvenient, so we have to check on Talabat. The shakshouka comes stuffed in filo pastry, similar to a samosa. It’s four samosas for QR52 – and that’s quite pricey we think. The mushroom eggs benedict comes in a large bun, loaded with Hollandaise and crispy mushrooms on top.
The greatest appeal of Laura Cafe is probably its terrace area – everything is well spaced and minimal, which is contrary to the interior with lots of (very cozy) couches and more colour. But despite the few setbacks that are easy and quick fixes (get an English menu, guys), it’s a sweet spot to have a nice cup of coffee and admire the beauty of Lusail. Also works if you’re a later breakfast kind of person.
