Your love for sushi doesn’t necessarily mean empty bank accounts, torn wallets, offering to wash dishes and scavenging for loose change to pay a sky-high bill. Fudo

Another winner in the money-saving department, Fudo is an excellent choice if you’re located in central Doha and just want to grab a quick sushi meal. They do takeaway, too, and are quite efficient with packing and delivery.

Ginger Club

Unusual to find sushi in a restaurant called Ginger Club, but it’s here and it’s budget. It’s in the Pearl too, so you can easily impress your guests in your fancy home and spend less than QR100 on a load of maki rolls. And on that note, we’re out (driving straight to the restaurant as we speak).

Don’t discount it just because it’s located in a mall. Katsuya has a truly brilliant selection of sushi and we recommend you go here just to try every single one.

L’wzaar

Some of the city’s most competitively priced sushi, Lwzaar doesn’t disappoint either in taste or quality. Plus, you have a sea of options of the freshest catch around.

Oishi Sushi

There’s a nice selection of sashimi, temaki, hoso maki, ura maki and a few other Japanese terms we don’t really understand. All we care about is how good it tastes and how much effort they’ve put into creating a menu that’s written in English but looks like it’s in Japanese.

Neo

If you’ve been in Doha long enough to remember the good old days of weekly Neo visits, we can safely certify you as a true blue Doha-ite. Call us to collect your badge of honour, but before that, call Neo to book a table and get a taste of the deep-fried maki goodness all over again.

An old buddy that’s been around for a reliable amount of time, you can always count on some decent quality sushi at good prices here. You won’t be sitting inside a five-star venue, but you’ll get a close experience.

Do you even love sushi if you haven’t overeaten at Yee Hwa’s sushi night? QR120 and unlimited maki rolls? Yes, please. There’s a Korean BBQ at the table, too (and it’s fantastic) if you’re trying to break away from all that rice.

Yugo

Why should you go to Yugo? (We had to). Because they have something slightly cooler than regular maki rolls. They have stacks. And a delicious Japanese-style omelette.

It’s true, sushi can be truly luscious and luxurious, especially if you’re eating it at any of the below spots.

B lounge

This unique marina-front restaurant and lounge has some truly sinful pan-Asian dishes, highlighted by an elevated selection of maki rolls. Once you pop, you can’t stop (sorry Pringles).

Megu

Porto Arabia’s crowning Japanese jewel Megu is an all-star dining venue that serves the best sashimi in town (try it to believe it) and some scrumptious maki rolls such as the ebi dynamite. Morimoto

Dine in five-star surroundings and elegantly consume food (with chopsticks please) that lives up to all the hype at this celebrity chef-owned luxury restaurant at the stunning Mondrian Doha. There’s a jaw-dropping centre piece which warrants a DSLR in your purse (bring a big one please) and some truly Insta-worthy sushi.  If we were you, we’d order the rock shrimp two ways, too.

Nobu

Easily Doha’s best dining experience for residents and visitors, Nobu is perfect for every occasion. We don’t really wait for occasions to visit, that’s how good the food is. Chef Andrew keeps things lively in the culinary department and the three-level venue’s interiors really talk to you (and say come here and eat every weekend). You might think we’re delusional, but it’s a claim tall enough to get you to call them up right now and clear out any other weekend plans you have.

Novikov

Although we’re massive fans of the Hamachi carpaccio here (so much so that we almost never try anything else), we’re always inclined to order some of the sushi rolls here. Excellent quality, great taste and top-notch service – what else could you ask for? (Don’t answer, the question is rhetorical).

Nozomi

Tucked away in the Marsa Malaz grounds, there’s a Japanese diner that literally turns heads (especially if you’re sitting outdoor next to an unbelievably scaled up running horse). Nozomi’s sushi is the kind that’ll leave you wanting more – it’s the kind that makes you loyal and never even think of trying any other Japanese spot in town.

Sakura

You could have a regular sushi experience, or you could have an exquisite one-of-a-kind authentic Japanese dining experience right in front of a very talented chef swirling stuff up in the air and chopping it with his sharp blades. He’s not preparing sushi, but you could watch the show while you stack up the rolls in your mouth.

Sora

We’re Sora to say that a meal here might cost you half of your good kidney, but it’s luxurious and delicious, so you don’t have to punish yourself for splashing all that cash on an indulgent night out in the town. The must-tries are the yuzu Hamachi maki, grilled rib eye wagyu maki and our favourite – the Akira maki with shrimp tempura, avocado and truffle mayonnaise.

Spice Market

The OG of Asian dining in Doha, Spice Market excels in sushi (dare we say the best sushi in Doha?) and if you’ve ever tried the shredded crab roll here, you’ll agree with us. And if you haven’t, stop wasting precious time and pick up that phone. The salmon sashimi salad from Market by Jean Georges is officially classified as comfort food (by us).

Teatro

Located in City Centre Rotana Doha, this theatrical-style dining venue has plenty of cuisines and a sushi counter that will impress. It’s fresh, flavourful and fantastic.

Trader Vic’s/Tahitian Village
